Trinity Whiners-Out Progress-In
The long awaited vote on the Trinity River Project is in and the Trinity Vote effort is finally over. The referendum failed by a closer margin than expected but did not pass because the majority of voters had the good sense of sensing a “snow job” of the facts. This election had the most misrepresentation I have ever experienced in a local election in Dallas.
The positive result of the “no” vote will catapult Dallas into a new era of development and create a major new park in the United States. The lessons learned by the City Dallas should be evident and we will see if the new leaders in the city will quickly work to show citizens results. It is imperative the results the citizens see are tangible and realized within a short time frame. There should be no more bickering and delay. The plan is set and it is time to move.
Opponents of the Trinity have two major options left to them. They can file a lawsuit and challenge the election or accept they have lost this round of their fight to derail the Trinity project. A third option is to start another petition drive to over turn this most recent election. The most probable scenario is some sort of lawsuit challenging the results of the election or finding other weaknesses in the overall plan.
It will be interesting to read the articles from the Dallas Observer, The Dallas Blog, and the Dallas Arena. They have been guilty of defaming good people and spreading the most outrageous false allegations about the Trinity. The public did not believe them and spoke last night in the election.
I believe one of the most disturbing areas for me has been the seizing of some to challenge the Trinity proposal after 10 years of scrutiny has produced a plan most of the players have agreed upon. Many of the Trinity Vote people have recently become involved and others vocal against the Trinity did not offer viable alternatives to the current proposal.
The Trinity River Project is not the best planned project but it is better than anything the Trinity Vote offered. We can work with the project and should not waste any time producing results. I can only hope the delays and additional planning is over and the work finally begins.
